After nearly two years in a Pandemic, which initially brought travel to a screeching halt, Houstonians are packing their bags and starting to travel again. While the way we travel now is a bit different and more cautious, many are planning to finally escape for spring and summer break again.
While some may be booked and ready for a dream vacation this year, others might still be adding to their destination bucket list.
Houstonia staff is sharing some travel plans and dreams for 2022. The all-around theme is sunshine, creativity and relaxation, with visits to beaches, art installations, and bustling cities.
It’s safe to say we are ready to trade in Houston’s wintertime chilly temps for warmer weather, style and shopping, and of course, a little bit of rest.

Santa Barbara, California
“It’s been two years since my last beach trip, not including Galveston. I am absolutely ready for a trip to Santa Barbara, California. Here, you can visit the beach, tour wineries, dine at unique restaurants, and shop. Santa Barbara is a dream for a long weekend getaway, and I plan on doing exactly that this year.” Stephanie Bartels – Digital Editor

Arenal Volcano National Park, Costa Rica
“I want to practice my Spanish, so it’s Costa Rica for me. The rain forests, the wildlife, and cervezas on the beach– what more could you ask for? Specifically, I want to explore the Arenal Volcano National Park in La Fortuna. Marfa, Texas
“A destination on my bucket list is Marfa, Texas. As a style writer, who’s obsessed with anything fashion related, it’s a must I visit the Marfa Prada installation. Baja, California
“I try to winter in Baja every year for a couple months. Specifically on a beach called Cerritos Beach because it is away from tourists and there is awesome surfing there all year long.” Jesse Hieb – Account Executive
Palm Springs, California
“We are planning a babymoon to Palm Springs early March. After much research and consideration, we chose this destination because it offers a mild climate (Feb/March trips aren’t exactly peak travel season!), it’s easy to get to with a few airport options, and I don’t feel as limited there [being pregnant] with all the things there are to do and see.
