City Federation Spring Tea

Ladies are invited to attend the City Federation Spring Tea at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Ellis County Woman’s Building. The guest will be Ellis County Judge Todd Little. He will assist in honoring the outstanding club women of Ellis County.

“These are the ladies that work countless hours in volunteering to make Waxahachie and Ellis County a better place,” a spokesman said.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is the largest and oldest nondenominational, nonpartisan, international service organizational service organization of volunteer women in the world.

All ladies are invited.

Bluebonnet Trails

The Ennis Garden Club hosts its 70th annual Bluebonnet Trails on Friday-Sunday, April 8-10. Festival headquarters is in historic downtown Ennis, 100 N. Dallas St. Hours are 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

Throughout the weekend, there will be unique shopping vendors, food, beer garden, wine wander and live entertainment: Friday is Infinite Journey; Saturday is Rick Trevino; and Sunday is  Allan Conner. Admission is $5 for adults per day; ages 12 and younger are free. Purchase at the gate.

Texas Motorplex

WSA presents Texas Gypsies

The Waxahachie Symphony Association presents the Texas Gypsies at the Chautauqua Auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 9.

Travel back in time with a spirited mix of swing and gypsy jazz. The Texas Gypsies are a collection of well-seasoned Grammy winners and musicians who have backed many of today’s top jazz, swing, and pop performers.  There’s no better place for live music in Ellis County than the Chautauqua!  Tickets are $20 and available at waxahachiesymphony.org or at the door for purchase.

Wayne Boze Funeral Home announces a Clean Up the Cemetery Day for Gateway Memorial Park from 9 a.m.-noon  Saturday, April 9. The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1191, will meet at Asian King Buffet at 507 N. The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club will give away 100 trees at the Waxahachie Lowe’s on Friday, April 22. The event is from 8 a.m.-noon or until the trees are gone.

The Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, for Common Ground Ministries, 604 E. Parks Ave., Waxahachie.

Vintage Market Days

Vintage Market Days returns to the Ellis County Expo Center on Friday-Sunday, April 22-24. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Dozens of vendors, food trucks and more. Purchase tickets online or at the door.

Hachie 50 registration open

Registration is open for the annual Hachie 50 Ultra-marathon, Marathon and 50-mile Relay. This year’s event is slated to kick off at 6 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at Getzendaner Memorial Park.

Start times include:

• 6 a.m. – 50-mile and 50-mile Relay

• 6:30 a.m. – 50K Ultra-Marathon

• 7 a.m. – Marathon (26.2 miles)

Afternoon Tea Party

Texas Democratic Women of Ellis County invites the community to an Afternoon Tea Party in honor of the Suffragist Movement and the passage of the 19th Amendment. The tea will be held at the Ellis County Woman’s Building from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23. The Woman’s Building is located at 407 W. Jefferson St. in Waxahachie. A variety of teas will be served, along with finger sandwiches and various sweets. Attendees are encouraged to wear white. Hats and pearls are optional. Tickets are $15. The minimum age to attend is 12.

Earth Day event

Pettigrew Academy in Waxahachie will host a free Earth Day event open to the public from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 23. Exhibits, crafts, games, prizes and more. The Settles Nature Center also will be open to the public. The academy will again host a yard sale from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Donated items may be on the on the front porch from April 15-22.

Prairie Wildlife & Wildflower Adventure

Ellis County Rural Heritage Farm will host its annual Prairie Wildlife & Wildflower Adventure from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 24.

Bring your family to enjoy a fun afternoon in the country. Free wildflower tours, interactive exhibits, and demonstrations about the birds, wildlife, and flora and fauna of the Texas Blackland Prairie.

Earth Day celebration

Shred-It will be in the Central Presbyterian Church parking lot, 402 N. College St., from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 30, to receive all the paper everyone’s cleaned out while being at home last year. The charge is $10 for home shredding and $25 for business shredding for any paper or cardboard that needs a safe disposal. The paper will be shredded while you are there, so you are assured it’s gone.

Kindergarten roundup

Waxahachie ISD will hold its annual pre-K and kindergarten roundup from 5:30 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3. All pre-K registration takes place at Turner Pre-K Academy; kindergarten takes place at the student’s  zoned elementary campus. Marvin/Wilemon kindergarten lottery students will bee notified by April 18. Mid-Way Regional  Airport hosts its annual pancake breakfast/fly-in/drive-in from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, June 4. Adult breakfast tickets $6; children younger than 8 breakfast tickets $3. Besides the pancake breakfast, the event includes classic airplanes and fighters, Midlothian Classic Car Club, Gold Wing Road Riders Association, helicopter and CAF airplane rides, children’s activities and more. Gingerbread Trail

The Ellis County Museum hosts its 52nd annual Gingerbread Trail from 109 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, June 4-5. Five historic homes plus Sims Library and the historic Ellis County Courthouse can be toured. Ticket prices are $25 adults, $7 children younger than 12. Additional activities include a self-tour biking router, car show at Getzendaner Park, and antiques/boutiques market.

Christian concert
