Free children’s vaccinations

The Texas Department of Health Services offers vaccines Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at its office at 108 E. Kilpatrick St., Cleburne. By appointment only. Call 817-517-2306.

Free COVID-19 testing

Free COVID-19 testing is available through the city of Waxahachie hosting a site at the Waxahachie Senior Activity Center, 122 Park Hills Drive. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Self-collected shallow nasal PCR test; results within 24-48 hours; walkups welcome or book an appointment at curative.com.

Art show

WHS basketball

The Waxahachie High School varsity boys and girls basketball teams play Tuesday, Dec. 28. The boys play on the road in the Whataburger Tournament at Mansfield Legacy High School from Tuesday-Thursday, with times to be announced. The girls play at home against Kennedale at 12:30 p.m.

The Waxahachie High School varsity girls soccer team plays a scrimmage on the road at Wylie High School at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30.

WHS boys soccer

The Waxahachie High School varsity boys soccer team plays a scrimmage on the road at Rockwall Heath at 9:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31.

New Year’s Eve dance

Sokol Activity Center, 2622 E. State Highway 34, Ennis, hosts a New Year’s Eve dance Friday, Dec. 31. Music by The Moravians. Doors open at 7 p.m.; $10 per person. No reservations. 2022 Dumbest Run 5K/marathon

The Waxahachie Running Club hosts its annual Dumbest Run 5K/marathon at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, around the historic Ellis County Courthouse in Downtown Waxahachie. This is a pick your own distance event where you circle the courthouse to your heart’s content. Walk a mile, run a 5K or do a full marathon. Start early, start late, but a group photo is planned for 7:30 a.m. The community is invited.

First Monday artist

The Ellis County Art Association holds its First Monday Artist Demonstration as part of its regular monthly meeting, which is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. for meet and greet; demonstration at 7 p.m. Located at 113 W. Franklin St., Waxahachie.

TUESDAY, JAN. 4

The Waxahachie High School varsity boys and girls basketball teams play at home Tuesday, Jan. 4, against Lake Ridge. The girls play at 6 p.m.; the boys play at 7:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 5

Bible study with ‘The Chosen’

Ferris Heights United Methodist Church in Waxahachie is hosting a new Bible study with “The Chosen” on Wednesdays starting Jan. 5. Two sessions are offered: at noon and at 6 p.m.

“Bring your meal and invite your friends and family to watch the series,” a spokesman said.

“The Chosen” is a successful television drama based on the life of Jesus of Nazareth.

The Waxahachie High School varsity boys and girls soccer teams play Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 6-8.

The boys play on the road in the Galveston Showcase with a game at 3:45 p.m. Thursday against Dickinson, at 11:15 a.m. Friday against FB Eisenhower, and at 3:45 p.m. Saturday against Galveston Ball.

The girls play at home in the Rodriguez Memorial Tournament with a game at noon Thursday against Denton Ryan, at 2 p.m. Friday against R.L. Turner, and at 3 p.m. Saturday against Trimble Tech.

Canvas & Cocktails

The Ellis County Art Association and Art on the Square host Canvas & Cocktails, from 6-8 p.m. every second Thursday during Ladies Night out on the Square. Bring your cocktail; supplies provided. $40. The gallery is located at 113 W. Franklin St., Waxahachie.

Czech Music Festival

The Czech polka bands of Ennis invite the community to the 15th annual Ennis Czech Music Festival on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Sokol Hall, 2622 State Highway 34, Ennis.

Doors open at noon, with the festival featuring the Ennis Czech Boys, Jodie Mikula Orchestra, Czech & Then Some and The Moravians.

Tickets are $10 a person, with ages 12 and younger free. A catfish dinner for $12 will be served from 4-7 p.m.

The festival concludes at 10:30 p.m.

Pianist to perform

The Waxahachie Symphony Association presents pianist Steven Lin in performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at SAGU’s Hagee Center. Tickets available online ($20 adult) at waxahachiesymphony.com.
