CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The YMCA of Natrona County has pushed back the completion date of their Phase II project, but they are looking forward to opening the area in the new year.
“Seeing from the inside, watching it go up it’s kind of amazing honestly. Going from no building whatsoever to it being built all of a sudden, it’s really exciting to look at and it’s coming together really well too,” said YMCA Healthy Living Coordinator Lane Meyers.
In 2017 the new facility opened as part of Phase I. It included child care space, changing rooms, a gym area, basketball courts, and more. Phase II is an addition to the new building. The project began in August of 2020 and will include a family swim area, a six-lane lap pool, a hot tub, additional changing areas, and more.
The project has been funded through community donations, including through their Giving Tuesday campaign. In total, about 70% of the costs needed have been raised. The YMCA is excited to be able to give back to the community through the new spaces of Phase II.
“A lot of people are looking forward to this and we are just getting our lifeguards staffed, getting our employees trained and ready for the opening of Phase II, especially with the influx of people,” said Meyers.
The YMCA also plans to offer winter wellness events tailored to new members joining as part of their resolutions. The events will be tailored to setting and keeping goals, as well as staying consistent and motivated through the year.
Due to shipping and weather delays, the expansion is expected to be completed and open in the first quarter of 2022.
