Since beating the Portland Trail Blazers 145-117, the Boston Celtics have lost three consecutive games. On Monday they must contend with the Milwaukee Bucks, but rather than spending big on players like Giannis Antetokounmpo or Khris Middleton in NBA DFS lineups, Bobby Portis could offer tremendous upside. Over his last three games, Portis has averaged 19.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.7 blocks. Meanwhile, the Celtics have allowed opponents to score 53.3 points in the paint and hit 37 percent of their three-point attempts in their last three games.
This season, 61 percent of Portis’ total shot attempts have either come at the rim or beyond the three-point line. Considering Boston’s ineffective defense in those areas as of late, is Portis an undervalued option in Monday’s NBA DFS player pool? On Sunday, McClure had Brooklyn superstar Kevin Durant in his core NBA DFS picks on FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Durant finished with 51 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and two blocks for an incredible 79.25 points on DraftKings and 76.9 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Monday, December 13 NBA DFS slate and locked in his top daily Fantasy basketball picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.
Top NBA DFS picks for Monday, December 13
One of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks for Monday is reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic at $12,000 on DraftKings and $11,400 on FanDuel. Jokic dominated on Saturday night against the Spurs, with 35 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists. He’s gone over 30 points and 10 rebounds in three of his last five games.
On Monday, Jokic and the Nuggets take on Washington, which is another friendly defensive matchup for the big man. Coincidentally, Denver and Washington are tied for the most points allowed in the paint over their last three games, with 56.7. The fortunate thing for Fantasy players that used Jokic during that stretch is they still got three blocks from him over his last two starts.
Another part of McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Toronto center Chris Boucher ($4,300 on DraftKings and $5,000 on FanDuel). The Raptors‘ usual starting center, Precious Achiuwa, had already been dealing with a shoulder injury, but he was also placed into the league’s health and safety protocols on Sunday. Boucher has started two of the last three games, and in that time, he’s averaged 13 points, seven rebounds and a block per contest.
Toronto hosts Sacramento on Monday night, which is capping off a mini road trip that featured three games in four days. The Kings lost both games of a double-header on Friday and Saturday, and gave up 116 combined points in the paint. Boucher’s usage rate over his last three has bumped up to 23.1 percent, and he’s made nearly 52 percent of his attempts from the field. He should be able to find room down low and give solid production as a bargain option with upside on Monday.
