I was wondering if we were due this week after the eShop sale announcement but didn’t want to get my hopes up. Already got plenty of games coming out that I need to buy but hey what’s a few more.
I can’t wait to see Xenoblade 3 and the next Fire Emblem! And Nintendo, if they aren’t in this Direct, I swear that I’ll keep waiting patiently because they’re going to happen at some point and every Direct that passes without them is one Direct closer to the one that does reveal them.

I want Breath of the Wild 2 to be shown but I won’t be surprised when it isn’t shown. But I’m expecting Splatoon 3 to be shown and I’m hoping they’ll show a ton more stuff for that game. I also would love WWHD and TPHD to be shown but once again I won’t be surprised when it isn’t shown.
In seriousness, I am surprised by the timing here. There’s either going to be a lot of Kirby and Triangle focus or there are some bangers coming out in the next few months we don’t even know about yet.

I think it’ll be a good direct and I’ll leave myself open to some surprises. Last February, we were treated to Splatoon 3 and that was pretty nice. I’m assuming the show’s going to be 100% software only, so I won’t get my hopes up for any improvements to the online service like party chat/messaging.

I bet there’s going to be some stealth release or other. We are getting the direct on a Wednesday (It may always have been on Wednesdays, I don’t know) while the eshop is usually updated on Thursdays. Wouldn’t it be really cool if they just revealed the name for the BotW Sequel and released it the next day? Maybe that’s how that 4chan leak came about.

Announcement of a new 3D DKC game that plays similiar to DK64, has all 7 original Kongs playable (yes, even Kiddy), and has King K. Rool back as the main villain.
Announcement of a new Diddy Kong Racing with a lot of cartoon characters from Rare playable like Dixie, Lanky, K. Rool, Mumbo Jumbo, Gruntilda, Conker, and even Cooper and Amber from Grabbed by the Ghoulies.
My guess is 50% of the games will be ones we know about and some paid DLC for Pokemon Arceaus (included with Nintendo Online+) announcement sprinkled in with a couple new games.
I doubt we are getting any of the obscure games we’ve heard anything about if they are focusing on the “first half” of 2022 unless we get a stealth release. Nintendo doesn’t really have a lot of upcoming games that have confirmed release years and not dates. I think we will probably look at DLC, Kirby, maybe some more anniversary things, maybe a Donkey Kong announcement, and Splatoon 3, if the leak about it coming in March was true.
@ATaco That is going to be closer to when the Switch 2 is announced since it is almost guaranteed to be a cross gen game at this point like Prime 4 will be. They did the same thing with the first BotW. We are on the cusp of them announcing a nextgen Switch, probably in June.
Without a Smash reveal, this won’t be the same thing.
This will get a lot of views, but without a potential new Smash Bros. Fighter being revealed, it won’t have the same hype, a new character for Smash generates even more hype than the reveal of new AAA games.
Can’t help but be hyped. But also aware that it might not measure up to any hype myself or others might build and mature enough to not throw a fit afterwards
My prediction is that we’ll have trailers (and dates, if so) of Triangle Strategy, Chocobo GP, Kirby, Rune Factory 5, Advance Wars 1+2, Splatoon 3, MH Rise Sunbreak, and Mario & Rabbids 2, all of them coming out within the first half of the year.
Apart from that, I also expect to see something about Zelda or Bayonetta (only one of them), the new game from Monolith (coming out in summer?), Batman Arkham Collection, and another big third party game (maybe Resident Evil Outbreak?).
What about Pokémon Presents? I’m hoping for GBA version of Ruby and Sapphire to be announced for Switch eShop for 20th anniversary of the original games.
@RiasGremory Nintendo (and many other major hardware manufacturers) have been stockpiling their chips, this current shortage is a result of that. This did stem from the pandemic but these large companies decided to short stock while saving up their chip supplies. That also being said it doesn’t stop them from developing new hardware, they do that regardless of shortages and will likely announce something in June. Also the Pandemic is essentially over, there won’t be any more strains that were as bad as Delta or previous ones based on the evolutionary patter of corona viruses of the past like SARS1, they will continue to fall in lethality.
Ugh, why can’t they air these things at sensible times.
I should be excited, but all I can think about is how much this is going to cost me, and how tired I’ll be when I have to be up at 5am the next day for work. I’m getting old…
If they announce Goldeneye on NSO I may explode!!! That would be a dream for me. Also anything on Metroid Prime would be nice, also Bayo 3 just because. And that new TMNT game, a release date on that would be amazing.
My biggest hope is for a release date for TMNT Shredder’s Revenge.
I’m not expecting a whole tone out of this. I think we’ll end up seeing quite a lot on Kirby, Triangle Strategy, Advance Wars, Lego Star Wars, and maybe the new Mario and Rabbids game. I’m guessing we’ll get a few indie announcements, which is always welcome. I’m also expecting some more announcements for NSO, maybe Goldeneye. The article says it will focus on games coming in the first half of this year, so I don’t think we’ll see anything on Breath of the Wild 2 or Prime 4, but I do think Nintendo will try to end the show with something strong.

I cannot believe people are again expecting to see something Pokemon related… Come on guys, you just got TWO Pokemon games recently! I really, really hope the next Pokemon game releases in fall 2023, so Game Freak actually HAVE TIME to develop it properly! We do want a good Pokemon game, don´t we?? @UltimateOtaku91 GTAV is never coming to the switch unless it’s a cloud version running a cloud version. The game barely ran on PS3. The Switch has only PS2 level graphics… just look at how awful Arceus is.

Always pleased to see a new Direct on the way, but… am I the only one who just can get hyped anymore? Granted there are a few things that could blow my socks off and have me yelling at the screen with… frenzied jubilation… but, 9 times out of 10 (maybe 8) I just kinda hover between pleasantly content and slightly bored. It’s just so rarely awesome that there’s no point getting super excited. (And I’m not that hard to please, just give me Wind Waker HD dang it! Lol)

@RiasGremory Doesn’t mean they won’t announce another system in the works. Also like I said the chip shortage we have currently is due to companies stock piling their chips and limiting production. Stock won’t be an issue within 6 months for any of these consoles.
I hope they don’t spend too much time talking about Splatoon 3 though. Past Directs featuring the previous games had a bad habit of going into too much detail. I can’t wait for Splatoon 3,I love Splatoon but it will likely get its own Squid Lab Directs. Just show us a trailer.

@the_beaver I just want a re-release of GBA version of Ruby and Sapphire on eShop. I never played the original versions back in the early 2000s and was hoping they re-release this after they put Gen 1 and 2 on virtual console.

The only prediction I’m actually certain of is that rumored Arkham collection, and I think it will drop around March rather than the August placeholder suggested to capitalize on the release of the new movie.
Now for unrealistic hopes, it would be nice to hear something Metroid Prime related or some word on another Zelda Remaster. Never have been able to play XBC X, so it would be nice for Monolith to port that. Would also nice to to get a release date for Silk Song.
EDIT: Masahiro Sakurai will announce that he will become a DLC character for Smash by transferring his conscience into the game’s code. That will definitely happen.
Crossing my fingers for whatever Monolith’s been working on, though I’ve been watching Directs long enough to know that Nintendo can and will do literally anything other than what you expect them to.

I think it’ll be a good direct and I’ll leave myself open to some surprises. Last February, we were treated to Splatoon 3 and that was pretty nice. I’m assuming the show’s going to be 100% software only, so I won’t get my hopes up for any improvements to the online service like party chat/messaging.
Excitement, yet difficult-to-temper expectations ensue!!!

@The-Chosen-one I really miss Smash reveals too. Man, those were my favorite parts of the directs – just starting off with a big bang, and then moving on to other reveals.
I bet there’s going to be some stealth release or other. We are getting the direct on a Wednesday (It may always have been on Wednesdays, I don’t know) while the eshop is usually updated on Thursdays. Wouldn’t it be really cool if they just revealed the name for the BotW Sequel and released it the next day? Maybe that’s how that 4chan leak came about.

My guess is 50% of the games will be ones we know about and some paid DLC for Pokemon Arceaus (included with Nintendo Online+) announcement sprinkled in with a couple new games.
Going to need to see a release date for BOTW2 already.
I doubt we are getting any of the obscure games we’ve heard anything about if they are focusing on the “first half” of 2022 unless we get a stealth release. Nintendo doesn’t really have a lot of upcoming games that have confirmed release years and not dates. I think we will probably look at DLC, Kirby, maybe some more anniversary things, maybe a Donkey Kong announcement, and Splatoon 3, if the leak about it coming in March was true.

@ATaco That is going to be closer to when the Switch 2 is announced since it is almost guaranteed to be a cross gen game at this point like Prime 4 will be. They did the same thing with the first BotW. We are on the cusp of them announcing a nextgen Switch, probably in June.
hope they gave us the release date for botw 2 along with bayonetta 3.
Another thing is that it’s looking like they may not confirm a Switch 2 or anything because so many of their upcoming games are confirmed for Switch

My somewhat realistic yet entirely unlikely to happen predictions are:
Metroid Prime Remaster/Remake
Ring Fit Adventure 2 (or substantial dlc for the first game)
Star Fox Zero port
Without a Smash reveal, this won’t be the same thing.
This will get a lot of views, but without a potential new Smash Bros. Fighter being revealed, it won’t have the same hype, a new character for Smash generates even more hype than the reveal of new AAA games.
Danganronpa Another Episode: Absolute Despair Girls port for Nintendo Switch. Spike Chunsoft, please!

Awesome! As I expected.
My prediction is that we’ll have trailers (and dates, if so) of Triangle Strategy, Chocobo GP, Kirby, Rune Factory 5, Advance Wars 1+2, Splatoon 3, MH Rise Sunbreak, and Mario & Rabbids 2, all of them coming out within the first half of the year.
Apart from that, I also expect to see something about Zelda or Bayonetta (only one of them), the new game from Monolith (coming out in summer?), Batman Arkham Collection, and another big third party game (maybe Resident Evil Outbreak?).
Let’s wait and see! Hype!
i believe the first Nintendo Direct of 2022 will focus on Splatoon 3, Kirby and the Forgotten Land e Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak.

@RiasGremory Nintendo (and many other major hardware manufacturers) have been stockpiling their chips, this current shortage is a result of that. This did stem from the pandemic but these large companies decided to short stock while saving up their chip supplies. That also being said it doesn’t stop them from developing new hardware, they do that regardless of shortages and will likely announce something in June. Also the Pandemic is essentially over, there won’t be any more strains that were as bad as Delta or previous ones based on the evolutionary patter of corona viruses of the past like SARS1, they will continue to fall in lethality.
I’d be happy with a release date for the new Pac man collection.
Ugh, why can’t they air these things at sensible times.

I’m not expecting a whole tone out of this. I think we’ll end up seeing quite a lot on Kirby, Triangle Strategy, Advance Wars, Lego Star Wars, and maybe the new Mario and Rabbids game. I’m guessing we’ll get a few indie announcements, which is always welcome. I’m also expecting some more announcements for NSO, maybe Goldeneye. The article says it will focus on games coming in the first half of this year, so I don’t think we’ll see anything on Breath of the Wild 2 or Prime 4, but I do think Nintendo will try to end the show with something strong.
Wow I called this this other day on the batman trilogy article and how it will be included in the direct.
I won’t get hyped for this though as I despise basic ports and nintendo are famous for charging full price for those basic ports.
But I do hope for a BoTW 2 release date and maybe a reveal for the next mainline Pokémon game with gen 9.

We are in the minority, sir. COMMAND is my favorite SF game after 64. Loved the strategy elements and branching story paths. Really hoped that was where the series was headed.
I cannot believe people are again expecting to see something Pokemon related… Come on guys, you just got TWO Pokemon games recently! I really, really hope the next Pokemon game releases in fall 2023, so Game Freak actually HAVE TIME to develop it properly! We do want a good Pokemon game, don´t we?? A BIG, ambitious game that takes the series to a new level, after seeing what they can do with Legends, right?? Come on, stop asking for more and more! Give them a break lol

@UltimateOtaku91 GTAV is never coming to the switch unless it’s a cloud version running a cloud version. The game barely ran on PS3. The Switch has only PS2 level graphics… just look at how awful Arceus is.

Regarding Batman Arkham games, I think it could be there like a short teaser. We might see other collections of games in there too.
And I don’t think GTA V will be there anyway because R* needs to “focus” on the PS5 and XSX/S versions

@Jokerwolf because with a chip shortage theres no need to for nintendo to rush out switch 2 especially since xbox and sony are dealing with stock issues with their systems but nintendo president holding firm that they be focusing on the current model switch for another 1 to 2 years at most,
Always pleased to see a new Direct on the way, but… am I the only one who just can get hyped anymore? Granted there are a few things that could blow my socks off and have me yelling at the screen with… frenzied jubilation… but, 9 times out of 10 (maybe 8) I just kinda hover between pleasantly content and slightly bored. It’s just so rarely awesome that there’s no point getting super excited. (And I’m not that hard to please, just give me Wind Waker HD dang it! Lol)

@RiasGremory Doesn’t mean they won’t announce another system in the works. Also like I said the chip shortage we have currently is due to companies stock piling their chips and limiting production. Stock won’t be an issue within 6 months for any of these consoles.

I hope they don’t spend too much time talking about Splatoon 3 though. Past Directs featuring the previous games had a bad habit of going into too much detail. I can’t wait for Splatoon 3,I love Splatoon but it will likely get its own Squid Lab Directs. Just show us a trailer.

Am I the only one hoping for more updates on the NSO expansion pack?
The only prediction I’m actually certain of is that rumored Arkham collection, and I think it will drop around March rather than the August placeholder suggested to capitalize on the release of the new movie.
Now for unrealistic hopes, it would be nice to hear something Metroid Prime related or some word on another Zelda Remaster. Never have been able to play XBC X, so it would be nice for Monolith to port that. Would also nice to to get a release date for Silk Song.
EDIT: Masahiro Sakurai will announce that he will become a DLC character for Smash by transferring his conscience into the game’s code. That will definitely happen.
Crossing my fingers for whatever Monolith’s been working on, though I’ve been watching Directs long enough to know that Nintendo can and will do literally anything other than what you expect them to.
