NORTHWEST ISD PICKS HICKS — Northwest ISD named Dr. David Hicks as the lone finalist for superintendent Tuesday. Hicks will start in May, taking over for current NISD Superintendent Ryder Warren, who announced his intention to retire in September. Hicks comes to NISD from Sherman ISD, where he worked as superintendent for the past six years. He previously was area superintendent overseeing all secondary schools at Denton ISD. In a 33-year career in education, Hicks has worked in several roles, including teaching and serving as principal or assistant principal at the elementary, middle and high school level, according to a NISD press release. “Everything we do is about kids, and I’m very humbled and honored to join this team,” Hicks said. “I know this district. I’ve worked nearby for a long time. I know the people that are here have a deep passion for our children and doing the right thing, and giving them opportunities and helping them dream and achieve those dreams.” The state mandates a 21-day waiting period between naming a finalist and when the new superintendent can be hired.
