Velma “Laneta” Keeton Carroll, age 81, of Brownwood went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at her home.
Funeral Services for Velma will be held at 10:00 am Friday, December 31, 2021, at Salt Creek Baptist Church with Brother Jimmie Mize officiating; burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Laneta was born on October 6, 1940, in Mills County to J.L. and Annie Marie Singleton. She attended school in Early and graduated with the class of 1959. She married Charles Keeton on October 1, 1960, and they remained married until his passing on September 7, 2005. They had two children, Calvin and Tammy. She was a loving mother; she often volunteered as room mother while they attended school. A sincere caregiver that put others first.
Laneta worked at Head Start as a childcare giver and also worked as clerk for Loudermilk Cleaners. Her career was working at Sears and Robuck were she retired after 27 years.
She was a member of Salt Creek Baptist Church where she attended for many years. She was also a member of the Owens Extension Club and the Red Hat Society. She loved to socialize at the Senior Citizens Center with many lifelong friends. That’s where she met her husband, David Carroll. They were married on February 15, 2014. The couple was once nominated for sweetheart and beau for Valentine’s Day.
Laneta had a heartwarming smile that showed her love for the Lord. She enjoyed being outside gardening or just feeling the warm sun. She had a green thumb and could grow a stick into a tree. She also loved to paint.
She will be missed greatly by those she leaves behind. Her survivors include her husband, David Carroll Sr. of Brownwood; son, Calvin Keeton of Ennis; daughter-in-law, Keri Keeton of Waxahachie; daughter, Tammy Keeton Edwards of Jonestown; sons, Dr. David Carroll and wife Cassie of Jackson, MS, Troy Carroll and wife Jenifer of Brownwood; grandchildren, Charles Edwards and Collin Keeton; step-grandchildren, Brittanie Grimes and husband Gary, Katelynn Hammonds and husband Geoffrey, Brittany Sawyer and husband Corey, Matt Carroll, Austin Carroll, Madison Carroll, Mason Glaze, Gray Glaze, Kaleigh Hopson, Kaleb Hopson and wife Catherine, Cason Carroll and wife Kerry.
